 Meet Our Founder: Denise Togbah

My name is Denise Togbah. I am a proud mother of five amazing boys and the founder of Taskforce INC.

My journey to this point has not been easy. I survived a marriage marked by domestic abuse-an experience that nearly cost me and my children our lives. At one point, we were homeless and living in our car. The pain and hopelessness were so overwhelming that I even attempted to take my own life.

During that time, I was undocumented, and my ex-husband threatened to take my children away and have me deported. Thankfully, with help from legal aid, I was eventually able to obtain my green card and later my citizenship.

While working at Bell Bank in the mortgage department, still homeless, I met Kristi, a kind and compassionate woman who changed the course of our lives. She and her daughter helped us find a place to live, brought us food and clothing, and reminded us that we were not alone. Her most powerful lesson was the importance of giving back.

As time passed, I was able to rebuild. I bought a home and watched my children grow. One day, I noticed my kids taking food from our pantry to school to share with classmates who were struggling. At first, I was upset-remembering too well what it meant to go hungry-but my youngest reminded me of Kristi’s generosity. That moment lit a spark in me.

With encouragement from my son, I posted on Facebook offering food to anyone in need. Within hours, seven families reached out. That was the beginning of Taskforce Inc., launched during the COVID-19 pandemic with a group of friends who shared the same heart for helping others.

Taskforce Inc. was born out of lived experience-real pain, real survival, and real hope. We are not outsiders looking in. We have been there. We’ve lived through domestic abuse, homelessness, hunger, fear, and uncertainty. That is why we advocate. That is why we give.

We understand the people we serve, because we were once in their shoes. At Taskforce INC, we tell our story through service-one bag of food, one act of kindness, one life at a time.

To every victim, survivor, or person struggling silently: You are not alone. We see you. We believe you. And we are here, because we’ve been there too.

Task Force Inc. imagines a future where immigrant and low-income families live free from the fear of domestic violence, hunger, and homelessness. In our vision, mental health is supported, financial stability is achievable, and education is a right—not a privilege. We see homes filled with food, children filled with hope, and elders living with dignity and care. We are building a world where every person, regardless of their background, has the tools to live a secure, empowered, and fulfilling life.

Impact:

• Served over 150,000 families in Minnesota and surrounding cities.
• Provided fresh organic food so parents don’t have to choose between feeding their kids and paying bills.
• Helped youth leave gangs, return home, and re-enroll in school.
• Reached elderly community members—transporting them to appointments, assisting with paperwork, and ensuring their basic needs are met.
• Collaborated with churches and organizations to combat domestic abuse, hunger, and homelessness.
• Working actively to destigmatize mental health and domestic violence in African immigrant communities.
• Powered by an incredible team of volunteers united in compassion, purpose, and action.
